I am an astrophotographer and landscape photographer from Italy. Awarded with the APOD by NASA three times. I travel the World hunting for the darkest night skies and the best views. I'm in love with the deserts, and remote locations. I've been to Africa many times, in different locations, but I fell in love with Botswana, its unseen landscapes and is pitch-black sky with no light pollution. I make tutorials and private lessons, and many have asked for an astrophotography workshop on the field, so when I finally decided to do it, I opted for doing ii under the best sky conditions ever: African ones.
It will be and expedition into the wilderness, with tent in the desert, safari, cinematic sunsets, and explosive milkyways. Forget about Namibia and South Africa: here you will see the real pristine Africa, no lights, no cities... only our small group and the stars!
August 9th
You will be picked up from Maun and travel to the Central Kalahari Game Reserve (Travel time: ±4 hours), one of Botswana’s most remote and pristine wilderness areas. Upon arrival, settle into camp and enjoy lunch, followed by an introductory astrophotography lesson. Depending on the group’s energy levels after the journey, we may embark on a short afternoon safari and then begin our first night of astrophotography session under the vast Kalahari skies.
August 10th
After an early morning safari, return to camp for brunch and a short rest. In the afternoon, participate in a second photography session. As the sun begins to set, we will capture sundowner shots at the waterholes followed by dinner at camp. After dinner night photography takes place.

This morning is dedicated to relaxation and editing time. After brunch, join a midday photography workshop. In the late afternoon, we will set out for a safari and sunset photo session, followed by night photography beneath the crystal-clear Kalahari skies.

Our camp team will handle packing and transferring camp equipment, while we enjoy morning game viewing en route to maximize photo opportunities. In the afternoon, enjoy a photo lesson at Baines Baobabs. The day concludes with night shooting among the iconic baobab trees.

After an early departure, we’ll travel north to the Khwai region (Travel time: ±6 hours), in the magical area of the Okawango Delta, a photographer’s paradise with its ancient trees, wildlife, and reflective waterways. On arrival, enjoy a lesson on creative composition and low-light techniques before an evening of night photography among Khwai’s dead tree island.
August 15th
Following a relaxed morning, we will hold a photography lesson, followed by an afternoon game drive capturing golden-hour wildlife and sunset shots. The evening will be dedicated to final night photography, applying all techniques learned throughout the tour.
August 16th
After breakfast, we will make our way back to Maun, concluding this unforgettable astrophotography safari through Botswana’s wilderness. We will use the drive out of the park to make our last safari to spot wildlife for the last time before going back to civilization. Guests will be dropped off at their preferred accommodation or the airport for onward travel.

The Workshop main aim will be to capture the best milkyway you ever shoot! But we will also catch Magellanic Clouds, star-trails and the African sunset & sunrise... And don't forget a zoom lens, we will find time to do some safari and frame the famous big game of Africa!
This tour is good for both beginners and advanced shooters. Everyone will be followed before, during and after shooting. What you need is your gear, and to be familiar with your camera settings and to be ready to shoot in manual mode*.
You will learn how to plan a shooting session in the wilderness. Knowing in advance what you will need to do on the field to be ready once on location. What to bring, how to use your gear, how to position yourself for shooting, and how to maximize your composition with some framing theory.
The photographer best friend is the PhotoPills App. We will learn how to use it before and during the shooting, and we will discover all its secrets, both for astro and sunset/sunrise: from the planner, the augmented reality, the NPF rule, and the crosshair to find the Pole in the Southern Hemisphere**.
We will learn how to capture the African sky in all its beauty. Both how to get the the milkyway with no noise and all its nebulas, both how to catch the motion of the stars with colorful startrails. All, while planning the best composition on our subjects.
We will also edit together our pictures, learning all the secrets of my workflow. We will go through all the programs I normally use to put my pictures togheter: from Lightroom, Sequator, StarStaX, Photoshop etc. Everything with real examples and step by step explanations.
Even if is not mandatory, a good ally in astrophotography is the Star-tracker. You will learn how to use the MSM Nomad, both in the northern and in the Southern Hemisphere. We will see the theory behind and we could also make some attempts on the field.
A good trip to Africa is not complete without some game-drive. We will have several occasions to get great closer encounters with wild animals. We will be able to frame them during the day, while resting, and also try to get them during the amazing African sunsets/sunrises.
